Secondary Mastery Development Work Groups

This fully funded programme is for secondary schools who are looking to introduce and develop a Teaching for Mastery approach within their maths department.

Each school is invited to nominate two teachers as ‘Mastery Advocates’ to form part of a Work Group, which meets regularly to develop professional knowledge and expertise.  Led by one of our experienced Secondary Mastery Specialists, you will learn the principles and practices associated with teaching for mastery.

With help and support from the Mastery Specialist, the two Mastery Advocates will begin to work in their own classrooms and then with teachers within their own departments to embed the mastery principles and practices. Work will initially begin in Key Stage 3, but it is intended that this will extend to Key Stage 4.

The Work Groups provide an opportunity for schools to engage in high-quality, sustained and collaborative professional development. The aim of these groups is to support participating teachers in developing teaching for mastery in their own classroom and across their department and to support the development of collaborative ways of working within the department.
