Early Years Pathway 1, Number: Specialist Knowledge for Teaching Maths (SKTM)
Early Years Pathway 1, Number: Specialist Knowledge for Teaching Maths (SKTM)
Pathway 1: Number, Number Sense, Additive Reasoning, Multiplicative Reasoning, Fractions
Aims:
This programme is designed for Early Years teachers who would like to further develop their specialist knowledge for teaching maths.
Participants will:
have the opportunity for structured conversations in order to unpick the maths, the pedagogy modelled within sessions, misconceptions that pupils have, and how the approaches can be transferred to the participants’ classrooms.
develop enhanced maths subject knowledge with a particular emphasis on developmental progression in the Early Years to ensure sequences of learning are cohesive.
consider the learning opportunities and pedagogical approaches across the wider provision – reviewing and enhancing the opportunities to promote mathematical learning across the provision.
Who can take part:
It will be particularly relevant for individual teachers that have not received maths-specific training. Maths leads in primary schools who want to deepen their knowledge of Early Years maths practice would benefit from participating in this programme. A maths lead may find that participating alongside an Early Years teacher from their school will support their understanding of progression from Foundation Stage to KS1.
What’s involved:
four full day sessions spread across the year
between sessions, participants contribute to their online community, complete school-based tasks, and share their observations through discussions with peers.
What Is The Cost?
This programme is fully funded by the Maths Hubs Programme and so is free to participating schools/colleges.
Participants must be able to commit to the full academic year’s programme, including the completion of classroom activities/gap tasks in between sessions. Each participant is required to attend all 4 sessions.
