A vibrant professional learning community to reflect upon and develop mastery approaches
Aims
The aim of this Work Group is twofold: to enable schools to continue to reflect upon and develop teaching for mastery approaches in their own school, whilst also giving participants the support and professional challenge from colleagues from other schools. It is intended that this Work Group provides a vibrant professional learning community.
Who can take part?
This project is for departments who have previously participated in Development Work Groups or those departments who have had a Cohort 1-8 Mastery Specialist . While the Mastery Advocates from these departments will be significant members of the Work Group, the whole department is a member of this professional learning community.
What is involved?
Each different Work Group will have a focus for the year. The NW1 foci for 2024/25 are:
developing mathematical thinking
developing fluency with multiplicative reasoning in Key Stage 3
a bespoke teaching for mastery focus.
The same work group is run in different geographical areas to create more local professional learning communities.
What is the cost?
The Secondary Teaching for Mastery – Sustaining project is fully funded by the Maths Hubs Programme so is free to participating schools.
