Our Teaching for Mastery Programme is a professional development opportunity designed to support schools to implement high-quality teaching and learning opportunities for all pupils. This is achieved through research and impact driven professional development. Maths leads from participating schools will work alongside our experienced primary teaching for mastery specialists to consider their whole-school approach to mathematics. Time will be given to ensuring schools have a high-quality ambitious curriculum that meets the needs of all learners. This will be established by developing a deep understanding of the principles of teaching for mastery through observing learning, taking part in TRGs, collaborating with and learning from participant schools, bespoke school visits to support implementation, developing a deeper understanding of effective implementation strategies and working on gap tasks pertinent to your school to further develop the teaching of mathematics.
This is for state-funded primary schools in England. Each school must send two teachers to half-termly school-based teacher research groups. Each term, the Mastery Specialist will visit each of the schools.
Two Two Lead participants will attend six half-termly, school-based Work Groups each year, led by a Mastery Specialist, and be released from their usual duties to engage in termly bespoke school visits. Each term, the Mastery Specialist will visit schools to support leaders in developing systems that establish and embed teaching for mastery.
This model of professional development involves hands-on learning and peer-to-peer support. It is evidence-based and designed to support substantial long-term change.
