Secondary Early Career Teachers (ECTs): Specialist Knowledge for Teaching Mathematics (SKTM)

Secondary Early Career Teachers (ECTs): Specialist Knowledge for Teaching Mathematics (SKTM)

Develop mathematical subject knowledge and understand the pedagogy that underpins the teaching of it

Aims:

This professional development programme for Early Career Teachers focuses for two years on the key elements of observing learning, task design, lesson design and adapting teaching. This professional learning and practice development is situated in the context of two core mathematical concepts from the statutory curriculum:

  • NCP24-29_MR (Multiplicative reasoning)
  • NCP24-29_SG (Sequences and graphical representations)

Who can take part?

Participants will be those identified as Early Career Teachers – teachers in their first or second year of teaching.

What is involved?

Participants will work with assigned Cohort Leads for the equivalent of four days, utilising NCETM resources from the core concepts of multiplicative reasoning, and sequences and graphical representations.

Cohort Leads will work with participants to design school-based tasks that will influence practice development. There will be planned opportunities for participants to share the impact their practice change has had on student learning.

What is the cost?

The SKTM Secondary Early Career Teachers Programme is fully funded by the Maths Hubs Programme so is free to participating schools.
